On Thursday afternoon I got to take a tour of Hemet High School’s fantastic new facilities, which you can read about in the Sunday edition of the P-E.
But I also wanted to share a photo of one of the school’s older facilities — its library.
Last year, the school renamed the facility the “Freedom Memorial Library” in honor of those Hemet High grads who have given their lives in the line of duty. Mind you, at one point, Hemet High had more grads killed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan than any other school in the country. It has been surpassed, but still ranks second in the state with five graduates killed in the Middle East.
This summer, crews have been painting a mural in honor of those who gave their lives, but also in honor of the library’s new name.
And for those wondering, this mural is, more or less, in the middle of the commons area at the school so it will be visible for everyone to see on a daily basis.
