With a little music, song, and dance, the Hemet High School construction project of the Performing Arts Theatre was dedicated along with the two new two story classroom buildings. Superintendent Dr. Barry Kayrell addressed all the dignitaries from school board members, construction personnel, State Assemblyman Brian Nestrande, Field representatives from Assemblyman Paul Cook and Senator Bill Emmerson, and Hemet Council Member Linda Krupa among others.
The dedication was the culmination of construction on campus for the past eight years. It included the new 500 seat theatre, 40 new classrooms, new administration and agricultural buildings, a new pool and new weight room along with additional site work on electrical, data, cabling, landscaping, eating area’s and more.
The evening started off the HHS Marching Band playing the Hemet High Fight Song, then the presentation of colors by HHS ROTC. The National Anthem was played by the band and the Pledge of Allegiance was lead by ASB President Christina Ripley.
Many accolades and awards were given out and presentations to many of the members of the school, the district, the construction company, the community and our students.
Performances, other than the band, were the Chamber Singers with a rendition of Hisakata No, by Ruth Morris Gray. The HHS Theatre Department presented a number from the Broadway Musical, The Boyfriend called “The Riviera”.
Refreshments were provided by Balfour Beatty Construction and served in the classroom called the “Black Box”. Many students were also available for guided tours of the new facilities at the conclusion of the event.

About 80 invited guests gathered in the cavernous new 500-seat theater at Hemet High School on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 16, to celebrate completion of an eight-year construction program at the school. “Today is a great day for the school district,” Hemet schools Superintendent Barry Kayrell told the audience, which was entertained by theater students and chamber singers. Hemet High School theater students performed a scene from the musical “The Riviera” during a dedication ceremony for the theater and other new buildings on the campus. The Hemet High band lined up along the aisles and played the school’s fight song. The $62.3 million project was financed out of voter-approved tax bonds. It added the theater, which has replaced a worn-out, 200-seat facility. There is a new two-story, 22,915-square-foot science building with five science and seven other classrooms. Nearby is a 40,927-square-foot classroom building with 24 classrooms, four faculty work rooms and four special needs classrooms.
