Proposed school year up for debate
Hemet students would start the next school year earlier and have a longer winter break under a proposed calendar that will go before the school board Tuesday, March 5.
The Hemet Unified School District board meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the district office, 1791 W. Acacia Ave.
Under the proposal, classes would begin Aug. 12, one week earlier than past years. The 175-day school year would end May 30.
If school budgets increase, five days could be added to the calendar during the first week of June, according to the proposal.
Winter break would be extended to three weeks, from Dec. 23 to Jan. 10. There would be one-week breaks for Thanksgiving (Nov. 25 to 29), Presidents Week (Feb. 17 to 21) and Easter (March 31-April 4).
Under the proposal, the first semester would end Dec. 20.
