Hemet Boys Volleyball on way to Quarters

The boys volleyball team went into the city and faced Brentwood in a CIF division 3 playoff game and came away with a 3-0 victory.  (25-19, 25-13, 25-14)

After a quick trip to Malano’s for a bite to eat, making the two hour trek into the city, fighting the 405 freeway and downtown Brentwood traffic, where cars seamed to be crossing in front of anyone and everyone, the team arrived at the school about  6 p.m.

Hemet began game one with serve and Jacob Hill, with the assistance of some early defense and quick kills from opposite Marcus Patterson, got off to a quick 7-1 start.  From there Hemet maintained their advantage with the offense coming from outsides Jared Walsh and Dylan Vashaw.  Middles Tristan Yoder and JohnPaul Scheuble patrolled the middle getting some dunks from over-passes and short sets with quick hits.

As the games continued, defensive pick-ups and passing along with improved serving from Kory Labella and Eduardo Villasenor, the Bulldogs were unchallenged in the last two games.  Kristian Gallardo roved the back court and picked up many of the attempts from Brentwood.

The only hick-up came as Hemet tried to substitute in Jacob Arana.  He had an older jersey that did not match and was not allowed to enter.  In the second game, Jacob switched jerseys but the team was charged a point for the infraction.  It did not matter as Hemet cruised in the second game 25-13, Jacob contributed with his serving and defense.

Next up, quarterfinals at La Canada, Saturday, May 11, at 7:00 p.m.  This is the third time since 2004 that the Bulldogs made the quarterfinals.
