Blackhawks shine at Yucaipa meet

Redlands Citrus Valley continued its strong start to the season Saturday, finishing best among local teams in both genders at the 43rd annual Yucaipa Cross Country Invitational.
Blackhawks freshman Claire Graves continued her breakout season by taking the girls individual title after finishing in 18:23. Citrus Valley senior Kevin Maeda was the top local boys finisher, taking third in 15:39.
Quartz Hill won the boys team title, while Apple Valley Granite Hills took home the girls team title. Indio senior David Luna won the boys race in 15:23.
The top local boys finishers after Maeda were Hemet junior Jayden Emerson (fourth, 15:42), REV junior David Hughes (fifth, 15:51) and Hemet junior Tanner Torrez (11th, 16:02).
After Graves, REV freshman Samantha Aguilar (fourth, 18:35), Fontana Summit sophomore Jennifer Sandoval (fifth, 18:42) and Riverside North sophomore Clarissa Chagolla (seventh, 18:53) posted the best overall finishes among local girls.
Hemet Junior, Jacob Gonzalez tallied a combined nine goals and five assists as the Bulldogs (4-0 Sunbelt League) posted wins over Perris and Lake Elsinore Lakeside.
