MARTIN CARRIES RECORD LOAD

BY THE NUMBERS
Hemet senior running back Jeff Martin has been carrying the ball at near record pace this season, so it was only a matter of time before Martin set the program’s record for rushing yards in a single game.

Martin gained 414 yards on 46 carries during last week’s 52-41 loss to Hemet Tahquitz. Martin smashed the program’s previous single-game rushing record of 310 yards, set by Steven Farr in 2001.

Martin also broke his own record for carries in a game. He had 42 in the season opener against Banning. Martin is averaging 35.7 carries per game this season, which is three carries per game off the area record.

Martin is the 19th player from the Inland area to rush for at least 400 yards in a single game, and his 414 yards gained ranks 21st in area history. Martin is the second player from the area to top the 400-yard barrier this season, joining Cathedral City’s Orlando Wallace (442 yards vs. Coachella Valley).
